Accounting · Your financial business partner

A financial business partner—in the business with you.

Accounting at OPTY is the optional layer that turns clean books into real financial leverage—someone in your corner who understands the business, watches the cashflow, asks the hard questions about margins and growth, and turns the numbers into decisions you can act on. Some call it fractional controller services; we call it being a financial business partner.

What it means to have a financial business partner

Clean books and compliance get you the foundation. Accounting is the partnership on top—someone who understands where your business is going, watches the cashflow with the same care you do, and asks the questions a full-time controller would ask if you had one on staff: where to grow, where to cut, how much runway you really have, what scenarios you should be planning for.

We review and analyze your data on a regular basis, share findings and recommendations in plain language, and adjust the plan as your business evolves. The recurring sit-down most small businesses never make time for—because the financial side has a partner who's actually in it with you.

Numbers that point forward, not just back

Proactive cash flow

Stay ahead of cash flow with regular reviews and forward-looking forecasts—so you see what's coming before it arrives.

Budgets & forecasting

Practical proforma, budgets, and scenario-based forecasts so you can plan proactively and anticipate risk.

Reports that drive decisions

Customized reporting built to surface what matters for your next decision—growth opportunities, risks, and where to focus.

Regular advisory conversations

The recurring sit-down most small businesses never make time for: what the numbers mean, what they signal, and what to do about it. The substance of the partnership.

What's not here—because it's already included elsewhere

CRA compliance, GST/HST filing, month-end close, and year-end close aren't part of accounting at OPTY—they're built into bookkeeping as standard, because compliance shouldn't be optional. Accounting is what you add on top when you want the advisory and forward-looking work too. Many clients use both; some start with bookkeeping and add accounting when growth makes the strategic layer worth it.

What's the difference between your bookkeeping and accounting services?

Bookkeeping is the foundation: clean books plus the compliance work (GST/HST filing, month-end and year-end close). Accounting is the optional partnership on top—a financial business partner (sometimes called a fractional controller) who handles cash flow management, forecasting, and the reports and conversations that turn numbers into growth decisions. Most growing businesses eventually want both, but you start with bookkeeping because compliance can't wait.

Where does CRA compliance and tax filing fit?

Compliance work—GST/HST filing, month-end and year-end close—is part of bookkeeping at OPTY, not a separate add-on. We treat compliance as standard, not optional. Accounting is the advisory tier on top: cash flow management, forecasting, reporting that drives decisions. Payroll is its own service. Many clients use all three.

Will the reports actually be useful for decisions?

Yes—that's the point. We build reporting that surfaces what matters for your next decision: where to grow, where there's risk, and where to focus. We also walk through it with you so it informs an action plan, not just a stack of statements.

Can you work with my existing accountant or systems?

We'll assess what you have during the consult. Often the biggest wins come from integrating and streamlining what's already there rather than starting over.
