Technology · How we work

The benefits of tech-enabled accounting.

Technology isn't a service we sell separately. It's how we deliver everything else—and what makes bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll faster, more accurate, and easier to trust. Here's what tech-enabled accounting actually does for your business.

This is what changes what's actually possible

Done well, this isn't just "your books, on the internet." It's a connected set of tools that compound—each one removes friction or risk somewhere the old way couldn't.

Less manual data entry

Live feeds and capture tools remove most of the re-keying from your week—so people spend time on the work that matters, and there are fewer places for errors to creep in.

Connected systems

Your tools talk to each other—less time hunting for information across apps, and cleaner data flowing where it's needed. One source of truth instead of five.

Automated compliance checks

Routine reviews built into the workflow catch issues early—lowering the odds of penalties, missed remittances, and surprises at year-end.

Better decisions, sharper judgment

We use AI to enhance our expertise, not replace it. Automation handles the routine; an experienced human makes the calls that matter.

The four pieces that make it work

Tech-enabled accounting isn't one tool—it's a connected set of capabilities, each one removing friction somewhere the old way couldn't. Here's what's actually in the box.

Accounting platform
QuickBooks Online or Xero

Your books, live in the cloud—accessible to you, your accountant, your lender, and the CRA when needed. We run on whichever platform fits your business: QuickBooks Online (the most widely used in Canada) or Xero (a strong alternative for certain industries).

Digital receipt management
Capture, extract, attach, store

Snap a photo of a receipt from your phone and watch it post into your books with the source image attached. No more shoeboxes, no more lost paper trails, and year-end audits become dramatically less painful—everything is already documented where it should be.

Integrated AP payments & approvals
Vendor bills, scheduled payments, reconciliation

The piece that closes the loop on accounts payable: vendor bill entry, an approval workflow you control, scheduled payments to your vendors, and clean reconciliation back to your accounting platform. The reason we can offer full AP management as part of bookkeeping.

Automated compliance & integration
Routine checks, connected tools, fewer surprises

Routine compliance reviews built into the workflow flag things worth a closer look. Live bank feeds remove manual data entry. And the whole system connects to the other tools you already use—Stripe, Shopify, Hubdoc, payroll providers—so information flows in without double-entry.

We integrate with the tools you already use

Most businesses run on more than just accounting software. The point of being tech-enabled is that the rest of your stack doesn't have to be a problem—we connect to it and pull out what we need, so accounting-relevant information flows in without you doing double-entry.

Common integrations we work with:

HubdocExpensifyWagepointCeridianADPTSheetsStripeShopifyLightspeed POS…and more

If you run on something not on this list, ask. The integration ecosystem has thousands of connectors, and we'll tell you honestly whether yours integrates cleanly—or whether there's a better path.

"Automation handles the routine. AI helps us spot patterns and catch anomalies. An experienced human makes the calls that matter—that's the part we won't outsource to a machine."— How we think about AI at OPTY

Is technology a service I'd buy from you separately?

No. Technology isn't a standalone service—it's how we deliver bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll. The cloud stack and the integrations are baked into every engagement so the work is faster, more accurate, and easier to scrutinize.

Do I have to use QuickBooks Online?

No. We run on QuickBooks Online or Xero, depending on what fits your business best. The right platform depends on your industry, your team, and the tools you already use—we'll recommend, not force.

How do you use AI?

We use AI as a tool to sharpen our judgment, not replace it. It helps us spot patterns, catch anomalies, and move faster on routine work—so our experienced team spends more time on the calls that actually need a human. We don't hand decisions over to uncontrolled AI; an accountable person reviews what matters.

What if I already use other tools to run my business?

Good—keep them. We integrate with the tools clients already use to run their business (Hubdoc, Expensify, Wagepoint, Ceridian, ADP, TSheets, Stripe, Shopify, Lightspeed, and others as needed). The goal is to pull accounting-relevant information out of those systems so you don't have to.

How do automated compliance checks reduce risk?

Routine reviews built into the workflow flag things that warrant a closer look—unusual transactions, missing receipts, GST/HST inconsistencies, remittance timing. The system catches them; a human decides what to do. The result is fewer surprises, fewer penalties, and a much smaller chance of being caught off-guard at year-end.

The tools matter because the work matters.
